Another noteworthy temple in the southern region of Thailand to visit is the Wat Chedi Temple. Situated in the Nakhon Si Thammarat Province, the Wat Chedi Temple houses Ai Kai, a deity of wealth that is very much revered by locals.
It is sworn that Ai Kai often bestows windfalls to his faithful worshippers, hence the reason why so many people visit him in hopes of seeking riches and a windfall. Another amusing fact is that Ai Kai’s followers who have experienced windfalls often show their gratitude to him by offering chicken statues. The fact that there are over 100,000 chicken statues in the temple clearly strengthens Ai Kai reputation as a deity of wealth!
Besides the large hoard of chicken statues, believers of Ai Kai will often celebrate their prosperity with him by setting off firecrackers as another token of their gratitude. Fragments from these firecrackers have since piled up into a small hill, which has unknowingly become a ‘cannon mountain’ and another unique feature of this intriguing temple.
