Thailand and Malaysia have joined hands to announce a collaboration to promote crossborder tourism and create awareness of self-drive routes and tourism activities in both countries to strengthen a mutual relationship. The initiative aims to achieve a target of at least 7 million tourist arrivals between the two countries by 2024. On 26 October, 2024, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), Ministry of Tourism and Sports of Thailand, in cooperation with the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia, and Tourism Malaysia, jointly organised an awareness-raising event to promote cross-border tourism across the Thai-Malaysian border at the parking area of The Zon Duty-Free Complex, located between the Sadao Checkpoint in Songkhla Province, Thailand, and the Bukit Kayu Hitam Checkpoint in Malaysia. During the event, both parties jointly launched the Thailand-Malaysia Self-Drive Tourism Caravan, comprising over 60 cars and motorcycles from Thailand and Malaysia. More than 100 drivers and motorcyclists participated in the event, embarking on a journey to experience the impressive tourism and engage in cultural exchanges between the two countries.
